Garranty Townland, Inishturk

Standing Stone

Inishturk is another beautiful island lying off the west coast of Mayo, but unlike the Islands at Iniskea North, and Caher it does not have a history of Early Christian pilrimmage. There are the scant remains of St Columba's Chapel in Craggy Townland, plus a few hut sites, a Napoleonic tower, and the only megalithic site that we are aware of is this small standing stone in Garranty townland. It is situated at the north end of Lough Coolaknick, just off the Inishturk Loop walking trail.

Situated: In Garranty Townland on Inishturk. Take a boat from Roonagh Pier, near Louisburgh in Mayo. Upon arriving on Inishturk, walk north on the Inishturk loop walking Trail. The monolith is situated at the north east side of Lough Coolaknick.
